Let us begin with the Right-Wing Conservative's assertion that the Bible is the immutable Word of God. Every statement therein is true - nay, even fact - to be interpreted literally in all cases.

Add a heaping tablespoon of politics.

Fold in several cups of idiocy.

Sprinkle hypocrisy to taste.

Before serving, carefully and completely remove the ability to see irony.

Ladies, gentlemen, I present to you The Conservative Bible Project.

I especially like #6, applying logic with its full force and effect, and #9, crediting open-mindedness.

Just read the first page. The arrogance would be laughable if it weren't so tragic.

..............maybe it's better this way. My day has actually been pretty decent, so far.

Do I even need to comment?

Didn't think so.

I got half-way down the page and had to quit. Theses boobs don't even know the difference between Hebrew and Aramaic, and they think they can translate the single most complex body of ancient writing ever compiled?

Gah. The stupid, it burns...

If that group can prove, to the satisfaction of a panel of independent Original Manuscript Bible scholars (and no cheating - I have two uncles that qualify), that what they are proposing to publish is a complete, literal translation from the Aramaic/Greek/Hebrew to English of the Words that God inspired various authors to write, I would be willing to take a further look at it.

Otherwise, no go - they are no better than the groups whose translations they are vilifying, and their work and efforts deserve no extra credit.

Of course, they won't see it that way. Which is both sad, and pathetic, and probably emblematic of the times we live in...

"applying logic with its full force and effect, as in not denying or downplaying the very real existence of Hell or the Devil."

Indeed. Please apply logic and prove this. I dare them, I DOUBLE dare them. Unless there's a new brand of logic out there, I don't see this happening.

Ok, I can't leave this alone. So these guys say, point-blank that they want to remove liberal bias from current translations? Ok, I can sorta dig that. If I were to subscribe to a religion, I think I'd like it to be bias-free as possible. You know, like the way Jesus was supposed to love everyone But then they go on to say they'll use "powerful new conservative terms as they develop". So, totally inserting a conservative bias.

I think I see what they're trying to do. It's just a way to create an "authoritative source" to support neo-conservative claptrappery. Obscure Leviticus passage condemns homosexuality? Well, then, it'll be no surprise that Jesus quoted that passage to his disciples every day before breakfast before they would go down to the Jerusalem stock market and lay off some poor people.

Angry now.

Got it in one...

You're not the only angry one.

Because you know, King James was such a wanton 'progressive', and the same church that gave us the Crusades and Inquisitions, the church that translated the version now found to be too left-leaning for these neocons, was riddled with liberal bias...

History revisionists + batshit crazy religious zealots. Sounds like a Fair and Balanced read.
