I need an actor to bleed from the nose.

Starting with a clean face, I want one small line of blood from one nostril, as if a valve opened in his sinuses to let a bit of blood through.  It would be ideal if there could be several seconds of clean face before the blood appears...maybe even a word or two of dialog.

Naturally, I don't want my actor to aspirate the stuff, and I don't have the wherewithal to create a fake head.

Ideas?

p.s. Yeah, it's a weird request.  Get used to it.

Does the camera have to be on the bleeder the whole time? Can you have it first show up on someone elses face as a reaction and then show it bleeding?

just my fist reaction but I don't know shit about this kind of stuff, really.

This may seem a quirky response, but is there a way to google that sort of question?

thoughts on this: When a vessel first pops in the nose, or sinus', there is a bit of a tickle. Is is possible for the actor to reach up with a squib and manually insert the red stuff into his nostril, much as a nasal spray would be, under the guise of scratching his nose?

For that matter, red colored nasal spray would actually take a few moments before it leaked out of the nostril. Having used the stuff (non colored), it might just work, as I generally have to blow my nose afterwards to get it to quit dripping onto my lip.

It's a possibility.

Maybe a gel caplet the size of a vitamin with a hole in the end; Fill with fake blood; Freeze it.

Have your actor insert it just before the scene.
Once up the nose it should melt and start to run fairly soon, but not immediately.

Second suggestion, use a non-waterbased blood (with a lower freeze point) and just top off the caplet with water. Then when the tiny piece of ice melts you would get a significant run of blood.

Hey, Lon Chaney wasn't very comfortable doing HIS special effects, either. Gotta aspire to Greatness :)

I have a friend back in KC that was the special effects wizard for a metric shit-ton of low-budget horror flicks around KC. He worked a lot with Todd Sheets as I recall... anyway, he was a master of blood, gore, and zombies -- had several various articulated body parts and full body models in his living area.

The name is Ryan Oliphant. He used to hang out at Charlies when I was bouncing there. He's also a talented air-brush artist and tattoo-ist (he did the bands on my forearms and the shield/sword/motto on my left upper arm.)

I'll see if I can dig up his phone number and toss it at you. If I can't find it in time to help with this particular issue, he would prolly be a good resource for other things.

Ok, you want weird? I'll give you weird! When I read your post the first time, I thought you were looking for a volunteer, not a technique! And as I read it, I thought, wow, he not only wants someone willing to bleed, he's damned specific about HOW they have to bleed!
It's been a day...
