General Update

Hallowe'en is done for another year.

An evening spent walking around in the cold with a half-dozen family and friends watching my children load up on a bunch of stuff I wouldn't let them consume in that quantity any other friggin' day of the year.

Then back inside to the warmth and the noise and frozen pizza and microwaved brats and The Piñata That Wouldn't Die. aerie13 and I stayed mostly to the edges, out of the way, letting mljm and the other Professional Mommies run the show. It's the only way I make it through events like that and stay sane.

Now that's done, and we can get to the REAL business of Autumn: getting the house and vast grounds of our Osage estate ready for the Holidays.

Wow, I actually said that with a straight face. Feeling a little cynical this morning.

Still, there's coffee and breakfast is done and the office is quiet. I have no idea where my partners are - wait, they're both Catholic. November 1 would have morning mass, wouldn't it? Glad to be Protestant, ohhhhhhhh yes.

And happy New Year to my friends (and some adopted family) who celebrate this season in the Old Way.

Yeah, they're probably at Mass. Depending on how devout they are, they might be there tomorrow, as well.

(I grew up in the Episcopal Church, but the area was overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, so I learned most of the holy days at a pretty early age.)

Hmmm.. The Piñata That Wouldn't Die?!? I'm surprised that you wouldn't have an edged weapon at hand to encourage the piñata to spill it's candy entrails... :-) Really though, that got a good laugh outta me this morning. Thx, man...

You did put a slit in it, but it was completely wrapped in packing tape as I remember. I don't think anything short of a huge "X" would have made a difference. In the end Katie hit the thing off it's center support and you cut it open.

We have a HUGE bowl of candy put up for careful comsumption from the festivities and candy in the freezer.

I don't know why, but I always stop short of handing a five year old a half-and-a-half bastard, especially in an enclosed area with other children of similar age. Just overly-cautious I guess.

I don't think I've ever seen a single pinata ever open by bashing it. I think they've all had to be cut open. In one "fun" party I went to, someones drunken cousin did it with a chainsaw.
