Dec. 20th, 2008 21:46I'm accustomed to sinus pressure, even sinus pain. I am not accustomed to sinus burn. That, and my sore throat has not improved from when I last wrote about it - indeed, even on a four-hour staggered rotation of ibuprofen and Tylenol, the pain has actually gotten worse. When I mentioned to Michelle - in passing, you should be aware - that my sinuses burned when I snuffled, she presented me ten minutes later with a stern look, directions to the nearest open urgent care clinic, and my car keys. As I left she said something about returning with my prescription, or on it. I'm not sure, the wind was blowing kinda loud.
I did something I haven't done in years. I went to see a doctor. This is an event worth noting for its singularity.
The net result is a diagnosis of sinus infection, or, if you prefer, acute sinusitis. If I have strep, it will be treated by the same antibiotics as the infection so there was no justification to run a test for it. No signs of pneumonia, and the doctor approved of how I'd been treating myself, a clear sign of her intelligence.
The facility was nice and I was in and out in about an hour. The doctor was young, pretty, female (in case you didn't catch that earlier) and made me feel like she was someone you could share a beer or coffee with. All business in the performance of her job, but personable and unhurried, a welcome change to the hardened, harassed, ever-so-professional stodge-boxes I'm used to.
Antibiotics, NyQuil (for the antihistamine, which means in an hour I'll be partying like it's "ninetee-vizza-furble-whuh?"), ibuprofen, and Mucinex. That's to be my life for the next several days.
Oh, and I'm losing my voice, but I'm totally okay with that. At least I don't have to dress as a shepherd and do some insipid little 90 second blurb for church in the morning. It appears that Jami's up for another round as well, so we're all staying home tomorrow.
