It was the kind of cold that you get from keeping the windows open overnight when the temperatures dip. It was nipply walking around the house just out of bed this morning - nudity will do that to you - but very welcome.
Speaking of morning nudity, some morning my elderly neighbor is going to be tending her fence by our driveway when I open the dining room shades. She'll get a treat.
Friday night's weather was exciting. A spotter for Channel 9 news reported a funnel or wall cloud at 35th and Noland - that's about 3/4 mile from our house as the crow flies. Michelle and I went out in the driveway but didn't see anything.
No, we never went downstairs. Our family room windows look SW so we can see approaching weather. The kids were freaking out with all the sirens going off. Michelle made dinner, I watched the radar.
It was fun listening to the reporters drive around Independence reporting (or, more accurately, trying to report) the locations of weather events. They really should spend some time on the Missouri side of the state line.
One reported a funnel at the intersection of 23rd street and 78Hwy: that "intersection" is 14-1/2 miles long: 23rd street IS 78Hwy. He said, "the intersection of 23rd street and 78Hwy, by the old power plant."
I knew where he was based on other things he said, and where he was, there is no "old power plant." He was at 78hwy and 7hwy at the roundabout in front of the Lake City Munitions Plant. I could see how one could confuse that if it weren't for the BIG WHITE SIGN that says, "Lake City Munitions Plant." Nice one, Bob.
I made much more progress on the back bathroom. With the mudding done around the new window and the wall and ceiling junctions, the ceiling and walls are now primed and painted; underlayment and linoleum down; toilet re-installed. This week sometime I'll get the vanity back in, but no rush on that. I might have an under-the-table tights order to do (money is welcome) and there is a video I'm editing that needs some attention (more money, though not nearly enough for the work).
I'm very sore today, and in a very odd way. Back and knees hurt, of course, kneeling and bending for hours will do that to you. (I hate doing flooring, even wearing kneepads.) My thighs hurt, and this is the odd part: the inside front of one and the back of the other. A weird, asymmetrical ache.
The hillsides in the river valley on the way to work are starting to show color, and there's usually fog rising off the river as I pass by on my way to work. Next Monday is the first day of Autumn; if you were thinking about pulling out your fall decorations, now's the time!
