WHERE WERE YOU WHEN.....??

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)

Nowhere.

Where were you when man first walked on the moon: Apollo 11 (7/20/69:

Let's see...I would have been three years old. Probably in Belton, Missouri, at Springdale Lake Estates trailer park, probably in the playpen where I spent the first three years of my life.

2. When Mt.St. Helen's blew (5/18/1980)

Junior high school. My dad was on the west coast on business and brought me back a bag of the ash.

2.5 When the Hyatt sky-walks fell in Kansas City (07/19/81) (I added this one; anybody in KC will understand.)

Easy. I was at KFEQ radio, playing disk jocket in the production room while my brother Chris did his 7-midnight on-air shift. I walked into the newsroom and glanced at the AP wire, which was going crazy. I carried the printout into my brother, who announced it on the air.

3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)

I walked into the costume shop at Missouri Western State College, 2nd floor of the Fine Arts building. The TV was on, and over and over they played the footage of the explosion.

4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)

Just news. Don't really remember.

5. When the Berlin Wall fell (11/7/1989)

Ditto, although I do remember thinking, "Wow...what would my dad (who was dead five years by that point) think of this..?"

6. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)

Sitting in my living room watching on TV, wondering if I would be drafted.

7. When the first World Trade Center bombing happened (2/26/1993)

Don't really remember. NY was like another planet to me at the time.

8. When OJ sped off in the White Bronco.(6/17/1994)

Teaching computer use at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers, watching the fun in my supervisors office. Likewise there for his verdict.

9. When the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)

Driving home from the aforementioned computer place. My wife called me on my cell phone to tell me about it. Since my father in law was an ATF agent at the time and we didn't know how widespread the attacks would be, we were warned by my mother-in-law not to open any packages delivered to our home that we didn't recognize.

10. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)

Sitting in my living room, contemplating divorce (which, happily, never happened), numb to it all by the shit I was going through.

11. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)

Just news, don't remember.

12. When terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)

In my office at home, watching the events on the TV and looking at my eight month old daughter laying asleep on the futon, crying for her for the world she was inheriting, a world without the Trade Center, where airplanes are the weapons of choice among Evil's minions.
