The children are enjoying going to public school. I think they both appreciate getting out of the house and each other's company as much as anything. (If you missed that we aren't home schooling any more, this article explains it all.) However, they are also exposed to a whole new germ pool, and Jami's been sick off and on (mostly on) for a couple of weeks. Thus, by extension, Michelle and I are also exposed.

I feel better today than I did yesterday, but it's an up and down thing, and I've no doubt by day's end I'll be feeling shitty again. I did sleep reasonably well last night, which helps. I have a canker sore in my left cheek that is a misery to me - one of the clearest indicators that I'm sick, whether I particularly feel it or not.

Jami's birthday is this week, and it looks like he's going to be sick on his birthday, poor kid. He wants to go to renaissance festival this weekend for his birthday, but he has to be well first.

The weekend was busy and quite productive and while I spent a good deal of it frustrated, I can look back on it and be pleased with what was done.

On the Seamlyne front, I did four dye-jobs between Saturday and Sunday, and so this morning shipped three orders out. Two stand out for us: one was for a theater company, the second time they've ordered from us, and a market where we would like to become known; the second was to Tiverton, Devon, UK, to the chaplain of Blundell's School. What a chaplain wants with red and hunter green parti-color tights is beyond me, and I haven't asked. I'm content that we're being found by consumers outside the US ren fest market.

The basement stairwell is soon to be finished. I hope to have it painted by the end of this coming weekend. It's sat unfinished for many years, just not a priority since it's not a living space. I had to re-do much of the taping that was done when I first started, sometime around '95, and correct some mistakes I made, but all of that is now dealt with: the drywall goes all the way to the sill plates, the walls to either side of the side-porch doorway are now flush to each other, and there is a solid kick-plate at the step to the side porch.

I need to add a header in the doorway to cover the exposed wiring and ceiling boards. The mudding needs some final finishing, then it's on to sanding and priming. I plan to go to Lowes every day this week to watch the mis-tint shelves and see if there's an acceptable color and finish I can get on the cheap.

After our trip to Oregon over Memorial Day this year, there's been serious talk of moving away from the Midwest. In order for that to happen, we will have to sell the house and for that to happen, all the projects have to be done. No unfinished drywall, no exposed studs. (I'm content to let the basement remain unfinished.)

When the stairwell is completed, I've determined to finish the kitchen and dining room, and to get it done in a reasonable amount of time, I probably won't consult Michelle on it. We haven't been able to agree on how to handle the outside corner, so I'm going to just forge ahead and get it done, probably filling in the gaps with pre-made cabinetry as much as possible.

I've set a mental deadline on the day-job and will leave here after the first of the year at the first opportunity if my life hasn't changed for the better. I've blogged enough about my frustration here and won't rehash it; suffice it to say, ten years after coming here my family is worse off than when I started. The kids are stable now, and the flexibility I needed to get them through their early years, while very nice, isn't really necessary any more. I can move on.

I will hope that the Universe and Whoever is cranking it helps you find what you need to begin to enjoy the work you do...because your descriptions of some of the recent problems with the current day job are painfully reminiscent of some of the jobs I remember from my computer consulting days (with companies that failed).

I'm also hoping that your music opportunities continue to expand, regardless of where you land. I think they will... :)
