Let's just get to the heart of it: this is a call for assistance.

As you probably already know, the roof has been leaking. It started with the beginning of the truly heavy rains about a week ago. We can't afford to hire the job done, so I'll re-roof it myself and add that to the list of things I've done to the place.

Sunday, the roof tear-off begins. This is the part of the roofing job I am most dreading: getting through three layers of old roof to the plywood so I can inspect the damage. The roof isn't huge - just under 25' x 30' - a half dozen people would make short work of it.

So, if you have time and aren't afraid of heights I'd appreciate every hand I can get.  Having a hammer, pair of work gloves, shop broom, and a flat bladed or roofers shovel* (pictured, right) would help too.

The roof isn't pitched much - only about 12° - and the highest drop is a very survivable 20' :)

It's going to be a beautiful day with highs only in the low 80's.  I plan to start at 9:00 Sunday morning, removing the ridge cap. The Big Tear-Off (all the shingles and stuff) will start about 10:00.  I'll have coffee brewed (and there's a lot of evidence that I make really good coffee).

Bah! We'll be out-of-town (leaving tonight) until the 2nd.

Of course, if you wanted to just throw a tarp over everything and wait a coupla weeks, we could totally come help when we get back. *grin*

We tried the tarp and it didn't work. Thanks for the thought though. :) And he'll need all the luck he can get!
