There is nothing like having unexplained data in your output and being unable to explain it for several days, only to find out that the reason it's there is you forgot to qualify an UPDATE statement with a complete WHERE clause that included the record identifier.

Stoopid stoopid stoopid stoopid stoopid...and happens way too often.

At least this project isn't mission critical. I did that once while consulting at Sprint and deleted two million rows of data.

The great Gerald Weinberg said that a programmer has to be able to laugh at himself. I dare say that's true of everyone, but the computer is very good at rubbing our noses in our fallibility.

Believe me, I can sympathize, and remember my blunders all too well.
