Indian Food, or How We Managed To Leave  A Restaurant And Not Think, "Well, that was a waste of money."

Don't ask me how or why it happened, maybe Michelle will write about that on her LiveJournal.  Suffice it to say that we ended up at Taj Mahal East (yes, Jeho, that Taj Mahal, but with a new location in Independence) for supper.  Katie was at the grandparents, so we were free to be adventurous.  We had chicken tikka masala and beef bhuna. We even ordered off-menu, newbies that we are, and got peshwari naan.

I don't know that I could eat it every day, but Holy God that was good food. Maybe my first few experiences with Indian food my palette just wasn't evolved enough. We left the restaurant vowing to return, and it also appears to a place where we can take Katie to eat which is a bonus.

Mark Clavey calls Indian food a sensuous experience, in terms of being stimulating to all five senses. Overall, I agree with him.

Yay!
Well-done Indian food is great. And I am not an epicurian explorer.

If you ever get the chance - Korma Sutra in Westport has great Indian food.

If you ever want authentic Ethiopean, Blue Nile in the River Market. I was scared of it, and LOVED it.

Yay Indian!

Taj Mahal and Korma Sutra are still amongst my favorite Indian spots of all time and all places. We ate at TM and KS so much before we left that Singh over at KS in Overland Park still asks after us when Sean and Melissa go there for dinner. I've been to 23 Indian places in Portland and 3 in Salem and certainly have my favorites, but they all pale in comparison.

Properly done, Indian food is prepared according to ayurvedic principle which means 2 things. 1 -- the food preparation is considered a sacrament and prepared as such, even in a restaurant setting. 2 -- the spice and ingredient combinations are intended for particular medicinal purposes. Those things taken together, I think, contribute to an overall sense of well-being when you find the things you're supposed to be eating.

I've so been in the mood for Indian food lately. The restaurant that I really like is Korma Sutra at College and Metcalf.

Taj Mahal was my first experience with Indian food, too, and now I'm an addict. If you're ever in the Overland Park area, Rushi is delicious and has an amazing buffet. Om nom nom nom.

Loooooove Indian food
