Insomnia sucks
Apr. 29th, 2009 02:24I can't remember the last time I saw 2:30 when it wasn't by choice. It's not like it's even the productive kind of insomnia, where you're wide awake and can actually do something. My body and brain are tired, but sleep ain't coming.
It's not coffee. Last cup was shortly before dinner. I've dropped a shot of espresso at 9:00 and been asleep by 10:15.
It's not TV overstimulation. I didn't watch any TV tonight.
It's not that my mind won't shut off. True, I was up until midnight solving a particularly thorny set of problems with this software (which jumped the shark two versions ago, I know now) but the problems were solved so there's nothing upon which my mind needs to keep chewing.
I don't even think it's Katie, who, allergies in full snurffly bloom, is tossing out a cough-sputter-hrrnnxxkkkk! every ninety seconds or so in her sleep. (MIchelle's preparing a breathing treatment for her right now, hoping to forestall an asthma attack.)
The bed is comfortable, the house is cozy and warm, and I'm not picking up any disturbances in the Force (so to speak).
I just can't sleep. I have to be up in four and a half hours anyway, I'm wondering if I should even bother. I could get a helluva jumpstart on the day's workload...we'll see. Maybe I'll toss on some lounging pants and go try out the family room couch, see what a change of venue does for me.
