When we announced to the ren community and the world at large that we were retiring from the tights business, the barometric pressure in North America suddenly dropped and it started raining. What we've figured out caused it was the abrupt intake of breath from many many people sharply inhaling to protest, "NOOOOO!"
Okay, what really happened was we got a bunch of emails, a few phone calls, and bits of fruit from several grapevines that we had caused quite an uproar. We've done more business since the announcement than we did most of the summer!
Since then, lots of little bits of information have been dropping into our lap, whispered suggestions about how to keep going - using contract labor or contracting with workrooms, letting the business pay for child care when we can't avoid doing the work ourselves, etc.
So, Seamlyne's not dead nor doth it sleep. We've reopened, tights and leather goods only (no shirts - that machine will be going away soon), and will try to make a go of it with other folks doing the work. We'll try as much as possible to run the business side only. Given the nature of what we're making, we'll recruit machine operators from outside the ren community.
So, there it is. Need tights, anyone?
