The seal around the base of the back bathroom toilet finally - and noticeably - kablooeyed on us this afternoon.  What started as a relatively relaxing day has ended up with removing the toilet, vanity, linoleum, a portion of the luann underlayment, a portion of the second subfloor, and a small portion of the first subfloor*, just to get rid of everything that was soaked or moldy.

Left to do is clean up the interim mess and spritz the floorboards with bleach to kill the mold.  Tomorrow: new sub-flooring, underlayment, linoleum, vanity, faucet, and replace the toilet with new seals.

And as I stand in the bathroom door, looking at the amount of work needed to return the room to habitable status - knowing that I really only have one day to get this done - I think to myself, it could be worse...

...I could be getting ready for day 3 of KCRF opening weekend.

Mine required taking out the ceiling of the bathroom below. As ours was a speck house, built of all the leftovers and as cheaply as possible (to get a "showpiece" up and viewable), the nails that held down the sub-floor were too small and missed a good deal of the time anyway. These nails I could see sticking through the floor below. I pushed them up and pulled them out from above...

The light in the downstairs bathroom was left on. In the wee hours of the morning, I got up and went to the upstairs bathroom, and sat down.

It was then that I realized that I had a unique situation. The holes from the missing nails in the floor made an almost perfect set of landing lights leading up to the toilet upstairs.
