I think it's a compliment. Don't you have to be able to fall down well in order to get up again?

Thankfully, this particular style of karaté is more in-ternal than ex-, more about being in control than kicking ass (although I'm certain there's plenty of that as you go along). Plus, the instructor is American, and therefore lacks the (sometimes violent) rigidity that transplanted Asian instructors seems to always possess. I'm looking forward to next week!
