Well, that was different.
Jul. 7th, 2008 08:59This weekend didn't turn out at all like I thought it would. It was full of "This was good, but on the other hand"s.
Of course, Friday night we went to Blue Springs and set off fireworks with the grandparents and neighbors.

It was fun, though I will say that if I never see another single shot mortar I'll be happy (there were 60, brought by a neighbor); I much prefer to light one fuse and have a dozen shots.
I got some spectacular video, but can't translate the hi-def capture to DV and still retain the audio. I'm working on that, but it s-u-u-u-u-u-u-c-k-s.
Katie was great for the first hour or so, but after that she became overwhelmed and had to retreat. Saturday, both kids were irritable from the noise and late hour of the night before, sniping at each other a lot and "off their feed", as my dad would have said.
I was right on track to have 2008 be a tight-less year, but Saturday I was asked to help out at the Shakespeare Festival which put quit to that goal. I had planned to take the family to the Blow Shit Up party, but I couldn't turn down the money. Even without that, though, given the kids' states of mind, we probably wouldn't have gone. Next year...hope hope hope.
Sunday, new tires for the car (three slow leaks...it was time) and a much needed haircut. Sunday evening had me again at the Shakespeare Festival. Hopefully that's it for the tights for this year.
Katie learned to ride her bike without training wheels, and it was a joy to see. Following his sister, Jami decided he wants his training wheels off. I'm all for it, Michelle not so much. I figure he's closer to the ground than his sister and wouldn't have as far to fall.
I deliberately did no computer work over the weekend, hoping to reboot my head to get back into The Game this morning. I'm in my office at work hoping for a little sunshine in my head but it's just not coming. Part of it is personal, part of it is professional: my heart sank when DG came in this morning. I undersand that the reaction is habitual, and I'm hoping that with a three-day weekend break this week will go smoother.
Yeah, a little melancholy today. I'll get over it.
