mapsedge: Me at Stone Bridge Coffee House (Default)

First, a happy belated birthday to [profile] esme7777!  (How could I have missed that?  Oh yeah...I suffer from CRIS: cranial-rectal inversion syndrome.)

Work is work.  I'm in what passes for a Happy Place, e.g. I have a laundry list of tasks that I can check off one by one.  Measurable progress, as opposed to the early conceptual stages of a website where it's all ethereal and shit.  I hate that part.  We expect to take this website live today or tomorrow, so it's down to cleanup and polish.

I've revamped the Map's Edge Media website, www.mapsedgemedia.com, to be more useful to me and anyone wanting to know what I do.  It's very minimalist but very SEO friendly - I should soon start appearing in Google for search phrases like "celtic music kansas city" and "kansas city videography", hopefully on the first page*.

I found out that one can create an entire website - not just a blog - using Wordpress, and because I'm skeptical I'm going to give it a try and see if it's possible.  The blog software I downloaded (Forest Blog) is powerful, but very early-90's - no Ajax; "please wait"-pages  all over the place; extremely inefficient ASP code.  Lot's of bullshit of the kind that I was writing six years ago and have since learned better.  Be damned if I'm going to pollute myself with it again, and I simply don't have time to re-write it just now.

I stopped at the coffee shop this morning on my way to work to pick up a menu (for the website, which is also getting a makeover) and get my free latté.  Doing their website costs me nothing, lattés cost the shop fifty cents apiece...my deal was that I have no out-of-pocket expenses, and I never pay for coffee again; it all works out.

Chatted with the barista of the day, Abi, a very competent singer, very sweet though much in need of a hairstylist.  The espresso still sucks - their "espresso" blend coffee isn't nearly dark enough - but I stop in because I like my town, and I like the coffee shop.  It's not as warm and fuzzy as it used to be under the new ownership, but they're still trying to find their feet; I'm willing to give them that much.

* If you want to try it, please do, but give Google a chance to do it's thing, okay?  I only requested the indexing last night and it can take up to two weeks.

I've got to find time to call them about a table reservation for Monday evening...we don't want to miss this!

I'll check with Lois, but I'm sure it won't be a problem. I'll make up a little "reserved" sign and carry it up there with me. :)

They took care of it this morning but if you would check that evening I'd appreciate it...

I'm much for liking the new site(s). Excellent, elegant work, as always. I am humbled by the nod in the bio. As always your friend and servant.

FYI: The image/ad/icon/thingy for the coffeehouse gig has 10-15% cropped on both the music site and the blog entry on the videography site.

Incidentally, look up James Keelaghan (another Canadian singer-songwriter in the Stan Rogers/et al tradition). I think you could work up a stellar version of his "Jenny Bryce."

Thanks for that heads up. Went and found him on CDBaby.

Going to pick up a few of those CDs.
