More progress
Jan. 22nd, 2008 09:20More progress made on the Office Formerly Known as Costume Shop. The cutting table top - once a proud 8' x 3' - is now cut to fit the metal drawer cabinet it sits on and the whole has been moved to the garage. The treadmill is moved to that available space. If I can get rid of the task table that will open up even more space. I can only imagine what removing the commercial serger will do for it.
As it is, that area is quickly losing its claustrophobic feeling, and opening up into a very comfortable room.

I was holding on to the serger until I could get a few pair of tights made for myself, but I've come to the realization that I don't really care. Should an event come up for which I need tights - coupled with the desire to do said event, an intersection of ideas that I don't foresee - I will make them on whatever machine is most convenient at the time.
One of the reasons that I held on to the tights business for so long - I made little profit, and it stopped being fun a long time ago - is that I kept the channel to ren fest open, if only a little. Now that the channel is closed (for want of a better term) I'm feeling no anxiety about it. At all. None. Nada.
Not unlike leaving a bad but safely familiar relationship.
If you cared to, you could also read between the lines and find a correlation with cleaning up my Friends List. Life changes and evolves, cycles, moves in phases. Beginnings and endings.
In other news, the family - read: Michelle and I - have started to work toward reducing and eventually eliminating our debt. To that end, we're selling the van and will get a smaller car with better gas mileage and a lower car payment. A Honda Accord is what we're aiming at. It will be odd having two sedans. We've always been a sedan/truck or sedan/minivan kind of family. Next phase!
It never fails: I schedule some event between December and March and start to get sick within two weeks of it. I've got some bronchial thing going on - I don't particularly feel sick - and by tomorrow or possibly Saturday, I will have completely lost my voice and it will take me two weeks to get it back.
Concert, February 9th. Joy.
I'm going to have to rebuild my PC at home, I just know it. I've started encountering problems with audio and video drivers, and when I try to re-install them the machine gets to about 50% and spontaneously reboots. Something's corrupted somewhere, and I think it would just be easier to slam the hard drive and begin again. I've started taking inventory, backing up files and folders, and generally cleaning up. Thankfully I'm not in the middle of any projects.
If I had the funds handy, I'd replace the sound card. The output channel is completely fucked up - sounds like listening to AM radio in a thunderstorm, but constant and louder...much louder.
And, over the course of this machine's three year life, I've put a lot of shit on it from a variety of licensed and un-licensed sources. A good cleaning may be just what it needs.
