Concert, Saturday evening
Aug. 23rd, 2007 10:24I will be performing Saturday evening sometime between 5:00 and 7:00 in a concert being given as a benefit for one of the musicians who used to perform at the Main Street Coffeehouse. There will be dinner served (BBQ brisket is one of the menu items, I know) and an auction of items to raise money for him and his family as he fights bone cancer.
The event will be held in the Family Life Center (the gym) at Christ United Methodist Church, at 14506 E. 39th St. in Independence (map here.) The two performers I know for sure will be there are myself and Ruth Ward, a phenomenal performer and singer. From 7:00 to whenever it's over will be several bands.
I apologize for not having more details. I'm only peripherally involved - as musician, and as a representative member of the church - and the last few weeks have seen the bulk of my efforts focused on my day job. I can promise that the food and the music will be good.
We're playing the whole evening by ear, and will adjust the playlist by how many people show up to perform, not unlike your average open-mic night. The music will be an eclectic mix, I'm sure: Ruth does gospel equally with jazz and pop (her cover of "Big Yellow Taxi" is incredibly good for one person on a gut-strung guitar) , I'm known for the Irish and American folk. The last concert I was involved in ran the gamut from gospel and folk, through bluegrass, and into jazz and blues.
It'll be a fun evening.
(I'm seeing Ruth tonight to set up, and I'll post more details after that.)
