The ceiling in the dining room used to be acoustic ceiling tiles: utilitarian, ugly. Now, it's beadboard, framed all around by 1x4s, and much prettier.
That was Saturday. The Mercer twins came over and helped me hang it...it took a while. We didn't actually start putting it up until midafternoon - the time before that was spent removing the old ceiling and cleaning up the joists under it. I started at 8:30 or so; they came at 1:00; we started hanging the stuff about 3:00; we finished about 6:30. Much gratitude for the help.
You know, it's not that the panels were heavy, per sé, they're just big, cumbersome, and overhead. Sunday I was so stiff I couldn't work on the ceiling anymore. I put another coat of primer over the whole thing - dirty hands make for a dirty ceiling - finished installing the new lights, and called it done for the weekend.
No more dangling pendants, nice as they were...recessed lighting, now, much brighter.
What's left:
Fill the screw holes in the panels and frame.
Recut the rabbet in the west frame piece so it'll lay flat over the panel in the center
Re-saw a 1x4 down to 3/8" to cover the seams between the panels (there are 4)
Find a ceiling fan and light kit we like and install it.
Paint the ceiling
Paint the walls
Shim the window frames
Trim the windows and hang curtains
Apologize to my wife for the mess...well, I do that anyway.
