mapsedge: Me at Stone Bridge Coffee House (music at the coffee shop 2)

The Main Street Coffee House officially changes hands at midnight tonight. I doubt that very much will change but I stopped in this morning anyway.

I like the place. The woman who works in the mornings is a little vacuous and can't make a latté that's any good†, but I like the way the floor creaks, and the way your voice echos in the place when you talk. I like the way the Square is changing and growing. I like the morning air and the sounds of traffic a few blocks away.

† They don't use a good coffee for espresso to begin with, then she either fails to use enough of it or tamps it unevenly. Usually, she overheats the milk. So, what you get is a dilute coffee drink that is geothermally undrinkable for about an hour and, once cool enough to drink without vaporizing your palate, is only vaguely recognizable as a coffee drink.

So, you might ask, Bill, why the hell do you bother?

Nostalgia. And I like the place.

So they sold it, eh?
I was just there last week with Mom. I like the place too.

Karen and David's lives, and those of their children, were completely ruled by the shop, and they weren't realizing enough of a return to make any of that truly worthwhile.

Appropos of nothing, the woman who bought it ran for Independence mayor in the last election. At least this Saturday, she's keeping one tradition alive: an open mic from 6:00 - 11:00. Will I be there? I certainly hope so!

Weekly? It hasn't been, but no telling what Lois will do once she takes over.
