mapsedge: Me at Stone Bridge Coffee House (music at the coffee shop 2)

I usually work at Astral Sea, but last year I wasn't needed at the booth and so had the year off. God how I missed it.

I've thought about this, but not sure I've ever put words to it. It's been more than ten years since I've been a regular performer at faire. There were several years when I never set foot on the site, and yet I still measure my year by the event. There's something about spending a day outdoors in a forest dressed in tights that says, "Autumn." Weird I know. Not even sure the tights are mandatory, but the experience marks my calendar. I have a similar feeling about Christmas: it's not The Season unless I've performed somewhere.

I received a compliment on Saturday that touched me very deeply, and altered (for the good) my perception of the individual who offered it and, perhaps more importantly, my perception of her perception of me. I won't detail it here and thus avoid the risk of a deafeningly loud tooting of my own horn; suffice it to say that it brought me up short and left me speechless.

I plan to go out one more time. Next weekend is Michelle's birthday weekend and thus is her's entirely. The following weekend we'll spend Saturday in Weston (Irish Faire) and Sunday I'll go out to ren fest.

Katie had her first gentleman caller today. His name is Daniel. He's in her homeroom class and they are as official as two thirteen year olds can be. He came over about eleven this morning and spent the day. They're still on speaking terms so apparently the day went well. I like him well enough. He knows Katie is autistic and it doesn't particularly concern him. He's polite, not afraid to engage, and took the Morris family craziness in stride. He also likes my cooking, so, bonus.

I'm quite sore from the unaccustomed activity yesterday. My legs ache bad enough to have kept me up much of last night and so now I'm exhausted and more than ready for bed, early as it is.

Yay for compliments, I've gotten a few this year as well that floored me.

Aw, Katie, hope these next two weeks go well (average lifespan of a 13 year old boyfriend)

It was good to see you again! I am sad we didn't have more of an opportunity to relax and chat - perhaps a family dinner sometime in the coming months? :)

HA! Get this, though: the kid's name is Kirkpatrick, and he has red hair and freckles. "Dating" and Irish dancer. Could that get any more perfect?

It was so wonderful to see you; I only wish we'd have more time to catch up. I'm glad you had a good day and that it filled you faire cup for a while. Don't let it be so long between visits, silly.

Yay for surprise, genuine compliments.

Hopefully the dating waters aren't deep and murky for Katie. Huge bonus that you like the first of the young men sure to come.

She's pretty pragmatic, though she's not "in love" just yet in any case. Three other boys have fallen by the wayside, and, at the risk of sounding overly...something, her standard of comparison vis-a-vis what a man is supposed to be is pretty high.
