Sunday, ready for the week
Apr. 11th, 2010 20:45Saturday morning, I sold the last of my industrial sewing machines, a 4-thread serger I've been trying unsuccessfully to unload on Craigslist for a year now. I took it to Missouri Sewing Machine company where it originally came from and got far less than I'd hoped, but Far Less is better than Nothing At All, when you consider the size of the bite the IRS is taking out of our butts this year.
That said, though, in an effort to make some extra money, I'm considering making some shirts (the swordman's shirt in particular) and tights again. Any interest out there in Ren Faire land?
Also Saturday morning, we went for a visit to the KC Zoo. With our Friends of the Zoo membership, we were there for a sneak preview of the new polar bear exhibit, and it's HUGE. We got donuts and coffee (juice for Michelle and the kids) then a few hours walking around. Our membership gets us free rides on the train and tram, so we totally avoided the long walk to "Africa". Lemme tell you, there's no other way to go than by tram.
I have already chronicled my experience at Main Street, so no need to go over that again. To sum up: I love my audience, I disliked the venue.
I got all the metal deck accessories wire-brushed and repainted, thank God for Rustoleum. Michelle got all the chair cushions scrubbed, bleached, and hung out to dry. Started laying in rocks for a path from the deck to the gate. We got two of our raised beds in today, a couple of 4' x 4' plots. The tiller started up after a sip of fuel conditioner and a couple of yanks on the pull cord (score!) so prepping the soil was the matter of half an hour. There will eventually be at least two more 4x4 beds and probably 2, 2x4 beds, but we just ran out of energy and daylight.
We bought a new door for Katie's room - a faux frame and panel, hollow core to match the one I put on Jami's room last weekend. In a couple more weeks, all the doors in the hall will be replaced and matching for the first time in ... 40 years or so?
Busy weekend.
