Wait, have to take a minute to laugh at that. "accoustics of the room" Plaster walls, wood floor, tin ceiling. Accoustics. Mm-hmm. Welll, it's not all THAT bad...you can certainly hear the music, but equilizing's a bit of a challenge. I've got a decent pickup in my guitar; for that matter, I've got a dynamite guitar to start with. That helps a lot.
