1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Depends on the gift. Small or awkward stuff goes into bags. I'm a pretty good wrapper, so everything else goes that way.
2. Real tree or Artificial?
I like real trees, but have an abnormally acute fear of fire. We use a pre-lit artificial - prelit saves a helluvalotta time.
3. When do you put up the tree?
The day after Thanksgiving, or as soon thereafter as practical.
4. When do you take the tree down?
All Christmas decorations are down by Twelfth Night. Winter stuff stays up until Easter.
5. Do you like eggnog?
Once a year I have a short glass, to remind myself that, no, I don't really care for it.
6. Favorite gift received as a child?
A 100pc marker set and large pad of paper.
7. Hardest person to buy for?
Since I don't buy gifts for that many people, it's hard to say. The easy answer is "Michelle", but it's not true. For gift-giving, she has no hesitation in showing me exactly what she wants. :)
8. Easiest person to buy for?
See #7.
9. Do You have a nativity scene?
Not a family creche, no. Katie has one she got in stages over several Sunday's last year.
10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
On those occasions when we do cards: mail.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
Toilet bowl cleaner from an aunt-in-law.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Holiday Inn.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
December 2nd, typically. See #7.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Not that I remember.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Turkey, since I don't get it that often.
16. Lights on the tree?
Oh yes. Don't care much for blinkies or chasers, in that context.
17. Favorite Christmas song?
That's a toss up. It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas and Who Comes This Night, a new carol written by James Taylor and Dave Grusin.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
It used to be travel, when my grandparents were alive and, later, when my mother lived in Nebraska and before we had children of our own. Now, we "travel" the fifteen minutes to Blue Springs on Christmas Eve, and stay home on Christmas day.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and of course, Rudolph. Can't do it without singing it, though. For the purists: Dunder and Blixem (thunder and lightning, in Dutch.)
20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Angel
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Yes. See #18.
22. Most annoying about this time of the year?
For a complete answer, see this post from 2005.
23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
Silver and gold...silver and gold.
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner?
The elements that make up Christmas dinner are pretty unique to the meal around our house (turkey, homemade stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce), the whole definitely greater than the sum of the parts. It is the combination of tastes that is my favorite.
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
I'd be happy with the promise of a calmer, wealthier 2009.
