Misc thoughts from the weekend

mapsedge* Hwy 75 from Auburn, NE to Omaha is much nicer than I29 from Rockport, MO to Omaha. You don't get there as fast, but the scenery is better, and the drive is more relaxed.
* The Platte River is the highest I've ever seen it. E.v.e.r. Usually, there are sandbars and the whole is shallow enough you could walk across it and not get your testicles wet, but not this weekend. Watch for the Missouri River to keep rising over the next several days.
* We stayed in a "nice" hotel. Strangely, we might have been better off in a cabin at the state park, and for half the price. We're going to try that next time, I think.
* An all-you-can-eat buffet is a good value only if you're not half-heat-stroked and have a decent appetite.
* A picnic lunch at a public park, taking an hour to recharge and let the kids play, is better than a drive-thru and getting home an hour earlier.
* Two nights away from home is enough for me.
