Clearing space
Jan. 10th, 2008 09:24I have a HUGE L-shaped workstation I bought back in '96 or so - it's 30" deep, and measured from the corner to the edge of each leg of the "L" it's 8' long. It's moved from place to place, and the last six years it's lived in the offices of my day-job. I moved it there to make room at home for the commercial sewing machines I was going to purchase. My desks then traded "spread out" for "spread up": when you have a lot of floorspace being used up, vertical makes sense, and I bought another workstation that stacked it's useable space.
What I found, though, was that a vertical desk starts to feel a little like a wall - a wall in a cell. With the sewing machines going, I sold that one and brought my "L" home.
Because it doesn't quite fit the available space I had to build a shorter section to replace one of the 8'-ers, but it works out okay. I had the plywood left over from other projects, and it didn't take long to do. I still haven't hooked up anything but my two computers - workstation and file server. Tonight I'll probably connect the amp, cassette deck, DVD player, and mixer. After that, another 2' desk extension for the TV and get that connected in.
I'm settling in nicely.
