Oh, come on! This is Microsoft, for crying out loud. When we went from Windows 95 to Windows 2000, a bunch of applications got left behind. When we went from 2000 to XP, the same thing happened again. Do we actually expect Microsoft to write their operating systems in such a way as to make upgrading easy? Or application developers to be able to keep up with them?
Here's my prediction: the next version of Windows, code named "Vienna" (no shit! They don't even have Vista in common use yet, and they're already past it. WARNING!) will be compatible with nothing.
