In the interests of full disclosure, I didn't read past the second book. I got real tired of Rowling's style, real fast, though she has created a fully realized and almost believable world. My issue isn't with the books, my issue is with the movie. If you have to take a copy of the book as a reference manual to follow the movie, something's wrong.
...And of course, there are the aforementioned shortcomings. Newell is out of his depth, and the water's rising on the juvenile cast.
