I told him that he was a very smart boy for asking such a question, and then I told him the scientific truth, as seen through a young boys eyes. We stopped at a fountain and I showed him how the water breaks up the colors from the sky, and told him that is also why water is seen as blue, just like the sky. And since there is an awful lot of water in the sky, it had to be blue, just like water is. Then we watched a sunset, and all of a sudden he turned to me and said "Just like the fountain, right?" It was a good day.
Now he's a major nerd for Apple computers, and makes me proud just because he calls me his Uncle Chet and isn't afraid to hug me in public. He's 23 now.
