As I understand it adults who have had Chicken Pox as kids get Shingles as adults because the Chicken Pox virus stays in the body and can be triggered later. Adults who have not had Chicken Pox can get Chicken Pox at any age and it is more dangerous and possible deadly the older the person is.

My Dad had Shingles a few years ago. There will be a Shingles vaccine, but it isn't available yet. Mom and Dad asked about it at a recent dr visit.
