I'm wondering if I broke my nose.

Back when we had the furnace and ductwork replaced, the workers removed a bit of floor joist from under the kitchen. Over time, that span of floor became more and more bouncy, until finally I checked and discovered the missing support.

Today I decided was the day to replace it. In trying to remove an obstruction, the hammer slipped, my hand - gripping the handle - flew back, and I punched myself squarely in the nose.

After bleeding into the sink for a little while, I put a new section of joist in.  Then I laid down to let the pain ebb and the ibuprofen do its work. Now it's just a dull ache, like a sinus headache but much more specific. It's sensitive to the touch, but the structure seems to be no more deformed than before.

Hey...that's a thought...maybe I put my septum back where it belongs, without meaning to. That'd be a silver lining, right there.

OK I'll tell you this from experience. You may have broken your nose, though if it's not visibly out of place, they will do little for you other than tape it up. Your nose is mostly cartridge you know. When I was 14 I wrecked a Spree scooter bike and landed on my nose. Hurt like hell. I spent 4 hours in emergency, lying about the injury since I wasn't supposed to be driving friend Bob's spree, with X-ray's and what not to be diagnosed with "facial trauma" seriously?
Nose is now bent, but hey, it's character. I just feel for you if you are stuffy and need to blow or sneeze.

In 86 Wm rolled his car in which he almost died. He originally broke his nose then and it was fixed through surgery. Fast forward to not long after we were married (post 93). One night we were in bed for the night and heard a loud POP and the next morning Wm had black eyes. His nose had popped back out of place with that pop. It was a totally bizarre experience. Hence his sentence about putting his septum back into place with the hammer.

Tonight it's a bit swollen, but not bruised that we can tell from the outside. He has had a pretty bad headache all day from it.

Wm said to tell you that it probably isn't broken, but it's doing an awfully good impression of it.

He's sewing a new dress for Katie right now and can't reply himself.

Well, I have broken mine three times; by running into a tree, running into my own knee and then running in to the back of someone else's head, so I can't be anything but sympathetic!
