Wednesday Update
Sep. 17th, 2014 20:52I missed my three positives for yesterday (how long is this supposed to go on, anyway?) and rather than try to remember what they might have been (it was NOT a good day) I will bring myself current with three, now:
1. I feel better. Not quite back to normal as my insides are still sorting out how they want to express themselves, but better.
2. I can cook. After two days of eating saltines and disappointment, I wanted a steak for dinner. Rather than blow $25 a plate for some line cook to make my meal, I spent somewhat under that and fed my whole family...and got a perfectly cooked, mid-rare Kansas City strip.
3. Today could have gone very badly. It didn't. Our co-lo provider experienced a problem with their power supply, if I understand correctly: the local power grid (Louisville, KY) went down briefly, the UPS kicked in to help, the generator came online to provide the rest of the missing electricity, then the municipal power came back on while all of that was starting up and fried every system it touched, including our web servers. We lost only a day's worth of work (which for me wasn't much...I wasn't too productive while I was sick) and everything was back online and functional by noon today. MoneyGuy, usually the sort of man to beat whoever is in range whether they're responsible or not, was pretty sanguine about it. Business as usual.
