mapsedge: Me at Stone Bridge Coffee House (Default)
Influenza-B struck last week, and struck hard. The kids are mostly past it, but Michelle is down. It moved straight to her lungs and will become either bronchitis or pneumonia. There's little point in going to Urgent Care: we don't need a hundred dollars to tell us to drink lots of fluids, keep up with breathing treatments, etc. We can only wait it out. The waiting is hard.

For my part, I caught only a glancing blow, never feeling worse than if I had a serious sinus infection. Last Wednesday I was sent home from work, my partners not wanting any more exposure than they already had. I stayed home the rest of the week. I'm more productive at home, as a rule.

I don't do well when Michelle is sick, a subject I've written about before, and I coped the way I usually do, which is to say that I stayed manically busy, filling every waking moment with activity. The dishes have never been cleaner, and there was a moment there on Friday afternoon where every piece of clothing in the house was put away in a drawer or being worn. That hasn't happened since before Katie was born.

This morning I woke up to a sore throat, tight and sore. The ibuprofen took the edge off, but swallowing is still uncomfortable. My voice isn't gone, but it's definitely backing toward the door with an apologetic grin. Of course, I have a concert Thursday night. I invited Lezlie to join me, but at this point I'm not convinced I'll be able to perform. Keeping my fingers crossed.

So I'm am at the office after working from home for several days. I was productive for those days, keeping up with and even getting ahead of my to-do list at work, but my partners still like me here. I hate coming to work and leaving Michelle sick at home with the kids, but there's not much of a choice. I left Katie a schedule of what times she and Jami can have the computer, what time to do homework, etc. I'm hoping that with a sheet of rules and times she'll be able to step up and lead. I made lunches for the three of them and set them on the counter in brown paper bags, labeled with their names. I don't know what else to do.
