mapsedge: Me at Stone Bridge Coffee House (Default)
Like most holidays, I had a good time, and now I am heartily grateful to be back to my routine. We had friends over for the 4th; the large Blue Springs block party that is - or was, it seems - our usual tradition just didn't happen this year. That's okay: I prefer my backyard for setting off fireworks over doing so in the street in Blue Springs. And, truth be known, I'd rather spend an evening with the friends we had over than the neighbors it would have been.

The food was better, too. Brats, roasted corn, roasted green beans, fresh coleslaw and watermelon...mostly local ingredients prepared fresh. That's how you eat well, if you're curious: fresh, local, from scratch.

We did get rained out. We shot off a few before the rain started, then took the rest inside. Michelle put the kids to bed and the grown-ups chatted comfortably for a few hours. It was a very good day/evening.

The kids and I shot off the rest last night, with Michelle as our audience. She sat way back, but still got rained on by bits of smoking paperboard. The kids thought that was the funniest thing, ever.

For some reason I was having real vertigo problems yesterday - no numbness or tingling or slurred speech, so not a stroke, thankfully - I got over it by late afternoon, but for a couple hours I was pretty miserable. Migraine? Possibly. I've had them like that before.
