mapsedge: Me at Stone Bridge Coffee House (Default)

After re-filling and re-hanging the bird feeders, I decided to make nice and clean the sidewalk. To avoid having to pick up my mail at the post office I included the sidewalk up to the porch and the porch itself. The maxim says that few environmental factors shall "stay these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds," but nothing mandates that they have to wade through a twenty-four inch high drift and up a flight of slick stairs to get to your particular mailbox, because, you know...fuck you and your unused snow shovel.

Having been out in it for an hour, I wouldn't blame our carrier. The breeze when I followed the sidewalk past the shelter of the house was shocking.

I love winter nights. I love the light off the clouds and snow, and the dim, gray faux-daylight it all creates. A couple of summers ago, I installed low-voltage pathway lights: they are now buried, the snow topping out at about 4" above their tops. Because of the timer in the garage, they're on whether you can see them or not - they're just a glow in the drifts.

Freezing, cheeks burning, nose running, I came inside and did what any sane person would do: I grabbed a tripod and the camera and went back outside to get pictures of the glowing snowdrifts.
