Movie Review: Enchanted
Jul. 25th, 2008 08:41I didn't expect to like Enchanted. Knowing the premise going into it and having no stomach for icky-sweetness in movies, this was one I sat down to watch because my family wanted me to. That's what you do when you're a daddy.
I liked it. I liked it a lot. It was not an original plot by any stretch, and there were no surprises, plot-wise: as soon as all of the major characters were introduced into the "real" world, I knew how the story was going to play out.
If you watch closely there are elements from just about every Disney movie ever made stuck into the empty places in set and script. The final dance number takes place in a live action version of the ballroom from "Beauty and the Beast", for pity's sake, and the lead male role wears the same coat!
For all that though, the director never overdoes it or gets too cute. It's a movie that gleefully makes fun of its own clichés, and invites the audience to do the same.
So, lots of good solid laughs and a cute story - the CGI chipmunk steals the show - and safe for kids, which is a plus over at Osage Acres.
