Feb. 13th, 2005 17:25Talked to D. Reardon today. It's been since well before Christmas since our last conversation, but as I told him: when you're not looking and forget to duck periodically, life happens to you. I'm terrible at keeping up with people who aren't thrust in front of me by circumstance.
Many of you are now grinning, thinking, "No shit, William (or in some cases, Bill). Really?"
It's not that I don't care, don't genuinely miss every one of You Who Know Whom You Are, it's just that, well, damnit, I overwhelm easily, left to my own devices. I manage time about as well as, say, a dairy farmer in the midst of a stampeding herd of undermilked Holsteins.
Today, Michelle helped me conquer that inertia, so I called. (She handed me the phone with his number programmed in, the "Talk" button pushed, and said, "It's ringing.") Life as usual, for both of us, and it took a good half-hour to express that simple idea. It's like that with someone you honestly like, isn't it?
Making curtains for the nursery of a friend of ours who just had baby; got tights orders to fill; need to get the first coat of finish on nine kitchen cabinets in the middle of being installed. As I say, life happens.
