It's interesting being tights maker to the king.

Because we have never failed to deliver on a promise, we hold the somewhat dubious position of having the E.D. for KCRF love us. No matter what the color combination - and this year's was a doozie - we've delivered. So far as I know, we're the only vendor that gets to come to Site Day and talk from the stage. Those of you that were there and saw me know that I try not to take advantage and sell from that position - I'm there for deliveries and accounts receivables, and I try my damndest to stay on message.

But that's not what this is about.

This year as I stepped up and introduced myself to the crowd - "Good morning! My name is Bill Morris, and I'm with Seamlyne Reproductions..!" - the back two rows...well, they didn't exactly burst into the applause, but built up to it quick until it was good and loud. It was a very nice feeling, and if you were there, applauding, I thank you for it sincerely from the bottom of my heart.

The reaction from the rows ahead of them was amusing: "Who is this guy and what's the applause for?"

Frankly, I'm not sure myself. It's been pointed out to me that I don't see myself or my talents as others do, so...well, there it is. Anyway, I haven't been out at faire as a performer since 1998, when, for a variety of reasons that some of you know and many of you don't, I retired my drinking skull and my shovel, and went home to build furniture as the leaves turn and drop into winter.

I can't walk away entirely, though. The tights business keeps me connected, albeit on the periphery and I still feel the pull when I walk out in the morning and there's dew on the grass and the air smells of smoke, and I flash to the Dell and the fog.

I'm going to contact KCRF and see if I can't bring Solace the gravemaker out for a weekend, dip my toes back into the water, so to speak. Once it gets cooler.

Once the leaves start to fall.
