Saturday I got something kinda special: I got to nap with my boy. Since turning two he's been All About Mommy. Saturday, I was beat from lots of activity in the morning, he was tired Just Because, so I grabbed him and we went to nap for a while. He's a cuddler, insofar as if you move away for some comfort space, he scoots in; this process continues until you either accept the proximity or fall off the far side of the bed.
Sunday, we spent the afternoon getting the house ready for company. Part of that preparation included cleaning the gutters (done, for now) and cleaning the yard. Katie wanted to rake, to make a pile of leaves to jump in. As usual, her ambitions exceeded her skill with a rake, and after 1/2 an hour of hard work she had a pile large enough to stomp on. With one foot.
That's when Daddy got the leaf blower.
With our huge front yard and the equally huge maple tree, about an hour later I had a 432 cubic foot pile of leaves (~12'x12'x3' tall), built around Katie who built a fort in the center. Jami woke from his nap and jumped in...and vanished, the pile being fractionally taller than he is, and leaves, no matter how artfully stacked, provide no appreciable buoyancy.
I leaned a rake against it for appearances sake.
Sunday evening...god, I have to keep it simple or I'll end up writing for an hour and I need to get to work.
Friends over, the house once again full of life and love and energy and music. We had chili and cornbread, got a great preview of
aerie13 's next CD, and chatted and laughed the night away. I am grateful for my friends. We could use more of that at Osage.
