It took till friggin' 1:30 this morning (okay, so I started at midnight) but the DSL modem is connected and functioning. My router was even so kind as to inform DynDNS of the change, so I can still RDP to home without having to know my IP address. Yea.
I'll skip the details. To sum up: once I got past Habib (chat) and Sh'abib (phone) in New Dehli and got to Tenisha in Texas, the connection was made in just a few minutes. My biggest issue with any service provider is our login info: since our chosen passwords are always a mix of letters and numbers, upper and lower case, the tech support folks on the other end trying to type this stuff never get it right on the first try. We rebooted my modem and router a few times till we finally figured out she had a typo. That's okay; she was pleasant to chat with, even a little giggly once we got past the prelims and she loosened up.
I do have one question for Habib over there: how is it that you want to test my connection to make sure it works when you and I are chatting online? Maybe there's this new chat technology that lets you connect without a connection...maybe some internet service powered by Spice. That'd be cool. Many machines on Ix, after all...why not a chat window?*
I see two browsers feuding...I see you behind it...
My question for myself: how is it that on nights when I go to bed at ten or eleven, I can't drag myself out of bed to get to work before eight-thirty. Nights (more accurately, mornings) when I go to bed at one-forty-five, I'm in the office at five-till? Granted, I'm typing this with my eyes at half mast and my larger muscle groups don't want to work.
Had a wonderful dinner (buffalo burgers, smoked; garlic-rosemary oven potatoes; home-made applesauce) and visit with
glesyn last night. More more more! Kate, next time we're coming to you...and I'm bringing my tools!
* For the record, I was connected with the ComCast modem, looking for the registration information for my DSL account to plug into my router. Next time, I'll just let them send me the installation CD...not that I'll use it, but it comes with the registration info.
