Yes, I've read the book. No, the movie is nothing like the book.

I just don't give a shit.

This is a movie where you make as much popcorn as your microwave can handle before you blow the magnetron, grab a two litre of your favorite soda and a case of Milk Duds and you sit back and watch the blood and the violence and the gore and the tits until, at last, sated, you collapse on the ground in Verhoeven-induced catatonia¹.

Hell, I even liked the second one, Starship Troopers: Hero of the Federation, which was panned by critics and fans alike for - God forbid! - taking a somewhat different tack to the original story.

But, could it be? Is the Second Coming...er...coming? Could it be that my ST dreams are to come true?

Yes YES YES it's Starship Troopers: Marauder!!! Casper Van Dien² is once again on point, channeling, if this preview is any indication, Michael Ironside (who played his mentor in the first film) in fine fashion.

I can't fucking wait.


¹ Yes, we know Casper Van Dien can't act (or at least, couldn't at the time), but he doesn't have to: he looks the part he was given so well that if he were to have acted it would have been a disappointment. If I were to criticize the movie at all, it would be the fact that Dizzy Flores (Dina Meyer), the ever faithful but underappreciated horny blonde, dies and not Carmen Ibanez, the big-chested but faithless and frigid brunette (Denise Richards, before the schizophrenia kicked in).

² The only one of the original cast present, so far as I can see; even Jake Busey, casting whore that he is, didn't come back. After playing Johnny Bartlet in The Frighteners, how bad could any job be?

It was on last night at 11pm, and we were tempted to watch it "again". Twenty minutes in and we were almost asleep in the living room from trying to get things together for WH this weekend.

renniemom says we'll be by close to 8pm to pick-up the mixer (audio I'm assuming and not kitchen, she wasn't sure).
