Rare is the weekend that isn't filled with work of one kind or another, and while there were a few things that needed doing it was for the most part a weekend off.  The weather was inclement - certainly unpleasant enough that I wasn't willing to work in the yard.  It snowed/sleeted/rained on Saturday, so we did Other Stuff.

Friday evening, while the kids are tear-assing around the YMCA in Independence, Michelle and I visited LC's Barbecue. What a treat! Incredible BBQ, and we definitely got our money's worth. We got a mixed plate - beef, pork, ribs), slaw and fries. Their slaw was delicious, a compromise between vinegar and mayo-based slaw. I'm not a big fan of thick french fries, but these were cut from fresh potatoes and seasoned just right.

We didn't go to Nebraska as planned. The weather was just too cold and unpleasant to make a trip to the zoo worthwhile with two small kids. Instead, we puttered around the KC area.

Saturday, went to Lawrence for lunch and, on the way out, Dunkin Donuts. 50 donut holes (do they still call them Munchkins? I don't think so...), and a dozen donuts. Chocolate cake donut, FTW!

For future reference:

Papa Keno's in downtown Overland Park: good place for lunch1.

Papa Keno's in Lawrence: loud music, dirty ovens, dirtier employees.  No pride in appearance or product.  God, what a shit hole that place is.  If we ever go missing and you send out a search party, don't bother looking for us there.

Sunday, did some more recording, then swimming at the YMCA in Blue Springs with the kids. Katie still has an aversion to water insofar as she doesn't like getting it in her ears and eyes (or on her face at all if she can avoid it), but she's growing more comfortable. My hope is that she'll eventually learn to swim, but gross motor skills are an issue with her so it will take time and patience. Jami is fearless and never-say-die. We gave him a noodle and tried - mostly successfully - to keep him from running over other kids.

The rest of the day was spent lazing around, something I almost never do. I just couldn't muster the enthusiasm for movement once supper2 was done.

1 Went there two weekends ago, after a visit with Star and trip to Penzeys.
2 Blueberry pancakes (with fresh blueberries), sausage, eggs.
