 Busy Weekend.

Was on the job for multimedia for church, creating (and, on Sunday, running) the presentation for the two services in the sanctuary.  Always stressful because the service notes can come from as many as four different people.  Sometimes the instructions are inadequate, sometimes contradictory, and there's never enough time to trade emails back and forth to get corrections.

Saturday, it is my usual practice to go up to church, load the presentation on the sanctuary laptop and confirm that everything works.*  The church uses M$ Office 200-whatever, I use OpenOffice - mostly, but not in every way compatible.

No laptop.  Had to track that down, go back to church later in the afternoon, embed two videos, run the whole thing (thankfully not in real-time).  Everything working? Good.

* It's also an opportunity to cross-reference the presentation against the final printing of the service bulletin, which this week was largely useless since there was plenty going on in the service that wasn't in the printing.  Joyful, joyful, we adore thee.

The Noland Road bridge over I70 is closed.  Well, let's be completely accurate: gone.  Scheduled to re-open sometime mid-May.  A fifty year old bridge much in need of replacing.  Anyone coming to North or central Independence using I70 is going to have to find a different route.

A lady from church was killed Sunday morning.  With slushy-slick roads, driving too fast on an Independence road that's not very safe even when dry, and not wearing her seat belt, she rolled her Kia Sedona.  She leaves two kids with a father made unstable (and, at this moment, in police custody) by bi-polar disorder.  Well done, I say, good on ya.  Senseless.

Sleeping at night without the use of pharmaceuticals, so I guess my health is mostly back to normal; still the urge to cough, but that'll finally be gone by, oh, April.  There is still a bit of gunk in my throat - feels like I've swallowed a clay donut - and if I cough just right I can dislodge it at least temporarily.  I can still sing, which is a bonus.

-----------

I've started the hunt for a studio I can afford within the KC metro area.  I have several offers from friends out of town, but the drive time + gasoline + + + all make those options unfeasible.  Worse come to worst, I can record myself.  It would take a bit of setup - my environment isn't the quietest - but it could be done.  Anyone have a box of foam studio sound panels they'd be willing to donate?  Oh, okay.  Rats.

-----------

Couple more videos to finish editing and burning, then my PC gets an extreme makeover.  Hopefully issues with my Lightscribe drive, memory errors, general health of the machine will be addressed thereby.
