mapsedge: Me at Stone Bridge Coffee House (Titanic)
[personal profile] mapsedge
Because of the ice storm, every event that was scheduled for work, friends and family was rescheduled. Since all of the organizers from the various events failed to confer with one another, every event was rescheduled for the same weekend.

Last weekend was a terribly stressful two days, and I'm heartily glad it's all over. I haven't had a weekend in some time where every minute was spoken for in some way:

Saturday
9:00am: get the kids up to church for breakfast and rehearsal;
10am - 12pm: finish the set for the church Christmas pageant
1:00pm - 9:00pm: Olathe, wrapping up the videography for the Willie's Wenches demo
10:00pm - 12:00am: upon arriving home, create the presentation for church services the next morning

Sunday
8:00am - 12:00pm: run multimedia for first and second service*;
12:00pm - 2:00pm: immediately after second service - almost before the pastor finishes the benediction - start moving the set into the sanctuary
2:00pm - 3:00pm: Christmas pageant
3:00pm - 4:00pm: strike the set
4:01pm: die.

Now I'm left the way I always am after a weekend heavy with such stress: out of sorts and volatile, feeling like I haven't slept in weeks and ready to blow at the drop of pretty much any hat.

We have friends coming over for dinner tonight, a much anticipated visit with folks we haven't seen in too long a time. That will be very good.

* The presentation was corrupted somewhere between my house and the church, Powerpoint wouldn't open it (and actually made it worse in trying). I still had half an hour before service was to begin so I could have recreated it in time but Vista (FUCK MICROSOFT) decided at that moment to install an update and reboot the computer...which takes ten minutes on the church's brand new laptop.

So, no multimedia for first service. No big deal as far as the pastor was concerned - the media doesn't drive the service, only supplements it, like an extremely large-type hymnal - but I was heartily pissed off. It was just more stress I didn't need. I took my flash drive home and recreated the presentation. Whatever was different the second time worked, and everything turned out fine for second service.
