Yeah, I went 'n' done it.  I found some blog software I actually kind of like - though customizing it has been a bit of a hassle, once I got it figured it it's gone reasonably well.

Commercial software alternatives

You may be interested in osalt.com. It a website devoted to Open Source software, more specifically alternatives to more well-known expensive commercial software, e.g. I've been using Gimp for a while as a replacement for Adobe Photoshop (which I can't afford).

Alot of the software has Linux alternatives too.
