Happy Thanksgiving

It isn't politically correct to celebrate the holiday "Thanksgiving", but I feel exactly zero responsibility for the actions of individuals who lived four hundred years ago. The "pilgrims" came, they saw, they conquered; their descendents made and broke treaties. So had everybody-friggin'-else, including those peoples they displaced/killed/enslaved/etc etc etc. The only differences are of degree, geography, and hairstyles.

I'm doing the best I can to raise my children to be responsible people, conscious of their actions and impact upon society. Take what you need and no more. Be aware of where and, more importantly, who you are. I choose to look forward, not back.

So, I celebrate the holidays now that I celebrated growing up, and I don't apologize for it.

Hell, I even go so far as to take pictures.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I planned to light the house this year, and so I did. Here are the results (click on each image for a larger version):

And, last but absolutely not least:

...and she's starting eating us out of house and pantry, which means she's either about to be or is already in the middle of a growth spurt. She already towers over other kids her age. Oy!

Actually, it was Abraham Lincoln that made Thanks giving an official Holiday. He called for a day of Thanksgiving during the Civil War. Then later, he appointed the whatever Thursday of November to be an official yearly celebration.

At least that's what I've learned. I'm not sure how the pilgrims got mixed up in the holiday.

That's it, I'm SO going to cone-of-power your ass!!

Don't you understand? Only Europeans did anything bad! Shame SHAME!

What, you don't feel ashamed? Duh doh. There went my moral power. If you don't feel shame...I got nothin'.

Back to Cheetos and Warcraft.

Looks great!

Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks.
Nobody should miss that opportunity.

COLUMBUS DAY, on the other hand...
Well, if you were fortunate enough that Columbus didn't cut your hands off...
