A Perfect Snow

I'm guessing 6", maybe 8" of snow, and it's the slightly wet kind that sticks together. Ideal snowman-making snow, and Katie's never made one. We've never had that combination of not-bitterly-cold temps, no wind, and daddy having nothing more pressing to do.

Today, we have that. That, and perfect snow.

Of course, I have to shovel, there's no getting around that. But I'm in better shape now than I was the last time it snowed like this, and I'm not dreading going out. I've already done the front walk and side porch so we can fill the bird feeders. The sparrows are in our trees, eyeing the windows like they intend to come get the seed by brute force. The blue jays have 2-way radios, and are coordinating the assault like generals on a feathered battlefield.

The few remaining tights can wait. Scripts can wait. Storyboards can wait.

Today, we have perfect snow.

I forgot what it's like to play in the snow with your little children...Savor it, my friend.
It will be one of your most cherished memories.

Yeah, even having to shovel this morning was fun, what with the nice weather, the perfect consistency of the snow and the sounds of children playing nearby.

I remember the hummingbirds in the Ozarks....

Bear left the house once w/out refilling one. A hummingbird buzzed me in the kitchen window, buzzed back to the feeder, buzzed me @ the window again, then back to the feeder for all the world as if to say "Oh WAITER...?"
