Two updates

One. Jami's procedure went fine. He went with the anesthesiologist without a peep, and cried only when he started to wake up in a strange place. The approach from the staff on this one was unique: they held him, before, during, and after the procedure, he was in someone's arms. Nice.

The tubes are in his ears and he's back to running us ragged, so much easier now since we had to get up at 5:00 and he got to sleep. For a little while he was still drunk from the gas, and watching him walk when we got home was vastly entertaining.

It's fun to watch him as new sounds come his way, and that's pretty much all of them. He can suddenly HEAR, something he couldn't do very well before (the doctor said both ears were completely blocked). I picked up the guitar after we got home and started to play "The Rovin' Dies Hard" and it was as if he'd never heard music before which, in a very substantial way, is in fact the case.

Two. We have four registers connected to the furnace now, and the house is warm enough without the use of space heaters. I blocked the open end of the ductwork to give some back pressure and the amount of air through the registers was astounding. I can't wait till it's all in. Even now, unfinished, I can set the thermostat to 70° and expect that the house will warm to that temperature in about a half-hour. That's a bloomin' miracle, that is.

They're downstairs working on it now. To run ducts to the dining room, they have to create a hole through one of the many foundations upon which this mighty edifice is built, and my ass is vibrating with the noise of it. Sorry, TMI. The goal for the day is three more registers.

That's all.

Great news! So glad that Jami's procedure went as easily as possible. Yay for a staff and a hospital who realize the comfort of human touch!
