Excuse me...

Excuse me, guy standing by the side of the road.  I'm pretty sure your intention is far different from the end result.  I know you're trying hard: you look to be about the age where the way you look to other people is a matter of constant concern.  No one could possibly stand like you do by accident, not without being the victim of attempted vehicular homicide.  The lowered shoulder, the thumb in the pants pocket, the scowl, the insouciant look out from under your eyebrows.  One foot forward Just So, the other leg slightly bent; almost a reverence to the cars blasting by you on Hwy 291.

It's just that - not that it's any of my business - it's just that you need to close your mouth and breathe through your nose.  With your mouth hanging open, your gaze doesn't smolder.  You've got the intelligent, thoughtful look of a cow waiting to take a speculum up the ass.  Close yer mouth, dood.

Heh... Nothing like a bit deconstructive introspection to lighten the day. :-)

It was wonderful to meet you face to face, btw. I hope we do see each other again, but next time when 1. I'm not completely fragged at the end of a hot day; 2. There's food or coffee or both involved.

Though #1 is far more important. :)

insouciant

You made me go look up a word, you bastard.

It's what I get for an English minor. My partner here at work gets a lot of shit from me because his English is sloppy, though he never takes the time to look anything up. He's quite content with not knowing.

I've come to the conclusion that, in general, the high school education I got in the 70's in a parochial school with a college preparatory curriculum is at least as good and sometimes better than a large amount of 'college educations'.
