Music Update

Spent some time over the weekend in the studio, laying tracks. We (by which I mean, Michelle) have set a fairly aggressive schedule for completing the CD, with a tentative (by which I mean, "get it done, William, or else") release date in May.

You hear that? MAY.

Given our budget (just under zero dollars) and that kind of speed, I'll have to go completely public domain. As a result, I'll be recording several songs that I would otherwise pass over, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that I don't want the CD to sound like Emerald Skye's Greatest Hits.

I have to remember, though, and keep reminding myself, that my audience Now is not the same audience as Then, and thus doesn't have the same memories and baggage. My hang-ups are my hang-ups.

Jonathan Coulton, one of my very favorite musicians, started public domain. Pretty much all of his songs are available here: http://www.jonathancoulton.com/store/

Some you can download for free, and some you can purchase. If you want CDs, you gotta purchase them.

You sound so wonderful, Bill, that I have no doubt that the CD will be great.

And as I hate to sound forward, if you need any friendly back-up harmonies, count me as willing. That would be fun, if it's something you need.

What are the price points for licensing songs you'd like to use?

Um... You know... You could just WRITE MORE MUSIC. Sheesh. I love everything you write. It can't be just me. :-P

*chkl* You and Anna. The problem isn't quality, it's quantity. Even practicing the exercise of writing every night, I have great difficulty making the images I have in my head work when written down. It isn't that I don't like what I write (which, often as not, I don't*), it's making the connection between picture and words and bringing those words out through my hands to the paper.

I also tend to write in spurts. "Arms of Another" was written in ten minutes. I didn't write another song after that for five years.

* but I don't let that stop me. Believe it or not, yours is one of the faces I bring up in my head when I'm writing for my mental audience. WWLL..."what would Lezlie like?" If my mental audience smiles, I write it down.
